This is the incredible moment a Dutch scientist swam next to a huge anaconda in Brazil.

Professor Freek Vonk encountered the monstrous green anaconda while filming a local TV show in a river in Brazil's Mato Grosso do Sul state.

Underwater footage shows the colossal reptile slithering on the river floor, unfazed by Professor Freek gliding alongside it.

The biologist described the anaconda as an 'absolute titan' weighing more than 200 kilograms.

He said: 'The largest anaconda I have EVER seen can be seen in this video, this is a southern green anaconda (Eunectes murinus) in Brazil (in a river in Mato Grosso do Sul) - so far this was the only species of green anaconda we knew.

'What a giant! As thick as a car tire and with a head as big as my head. Her height is hard to estimate, but when you consider that I am 196 cm tall - you can see that this really is a giant.'
