A horse named Lucky was rescued from a sinkhole by firefighters in California.

Lucky, weighing 1,200 pounds, had become trapped in a hole in Lake View Terrace in Los Angeles on February 21.

A sinkhole opened up in the property's backyard where Lucky was kept and the animal was stuck for hours in the muddy ground before firefighters could free her.

With the help of heavy equipment and a team of specialists, the firefighters were able to hoist Lucky out of the hole using an excavator.

Despite showing signs of distress, Lucky was unharmed and was able to walk on her own once she was out of the hole.

Captain Erik Scott of the LAFD emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of the horse during the rescue operation.

More than 50 firefighters, including a Specialized Mobile Animal Rescue Team, were involved in the effort to save Lucky.

While a helicopter was initially considered for the rescue, it was ultimately decided that using an excavator and vacuum truck would be the best approach.

By carefully lifting Lucky out with straps, the firefighters were able to guide her to safety, where she could use her hind legs to assist in the final stages of the rescue.
