This is the heartwarming moment a grandfather taught a toddler an ancient skill - making a ball from coconut leaves.

Anghel, a 66-year-old man and the father of Agapi Celeste Butner, brought coconut leaves with him to Frankfurt, Germany, to create a ball for his three-year-old grandchild, Theo.

Footage shows Anghel skillfully folding the leaves to form a ball while Theo plays with the long leaf in their home. It is a native skill of his indigenous village in the Southeast Asian archipelago.

After minutes of shaping the leaves into a ball, he presents it to Theo as a gift.

Agapi said: 'This might seem inexpensive to others, but to me, it means a lot. I knew that one day, when my son sees this, he will smile because, at least once in his life, his grandfather showed him how to make a native ball. He will feel connected to his ancestral roots.'

Theo has a Filipino mother and a German father. He was born in Europe and has lived there ever since.
