Police are probing the mysterious death of a Russian woman found floating on a beach in Thailand.

Masperovich Kirichenko, 35, attended a temple fair then rode her electric scooter alone to the Bang Saray Beach in Chonburi province at around 9:30 pm on February 27. However, she failed to return home that evening.

The woman was found hours later by shocked beach cleaner Ratchanee Rueangrong, 63, who saw her drifting along the shore at 6 am on February 28.

The rattled native told local media: 'My husband and I were cleaning the beach at around 5 am when we noticed the dead woman's belongings.

'We used a flashlight to search the beach but couldn't find the owner, so we continued collecting rubbish.

'We then moved toward the coast to carry on cleaning, but we found her body when we beamed the flashlight onto the water.'

The couple reported the discovery to police, who arrived at the scene to investigate and collect evidence.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Suwijak Ruengnuamdee of the Sattahip Police Station said: 'The victim is a Russian woman who has a Russian husband with whom she has a child.

'She was staying in the Bang Saray sub-district and was studying English at a language school in Pattaya.

'Currently, we are waiting for the autopsy result from Police General Hospital to determine the cause of death.'

Police said Masperovich was wearing workout clothes and sneakers when her body was discovered.

No signs of assault have been found, and all her belongings - including two phones, 590 baht in cash, a jacket, her scooter, and a roll of cannabis - were intact.

It is believed Masperovich had fallen from the breakwater around seven feet high, fell unconscious upon landing, and drowned.

CCTV footage showed that she arrived at the beach alone at around 9:33 pm.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Suwijak said: 'The investigation is ongoing. We have also summoned her husband to the station for questioning.'
