STORYLINE:

An electric unmanned patrol boat equipped with 5G technology has been put into use in the coastal city of Xiamen in east China's Fujian Province to protect Chinese white dolphins.

Known as the "maritime panda," the Chinese white dolphin is the most endangered marine animal and under first-class state protection in China.

Xiamen is the only city in China where people are able to see inshore dolphins on its beaches.

"This unmanned boat is a small vessel. It can patrol the areas according to our instructions, including Tong'an Bay, the core area of the white dolphin reserve in Xiamen. The electricity-driven boat has very low noise, so it won't disturb the white dolphins when it works. Moreover, the unmanned boat will not be limited by time or weather conditions. It can provide 24-hour protection for the white dolphins."
