Dhaka building blaze - WITNESSES
This footage was filmed and produced 1 March 2024.
A huge fire that broke out in a multi-storey building in the Bangladesh capital Dhaka has killed at least 46 people and injured dozens of others.
According to local media, the blaze began in a restaurant in the seven-floor property at around 22:00 local time (16:00 GMT) on Thursday (29.02.2024).
Seventy-five people were rescued and dozens taken to hospital. The fire was brought under control after two hours.
The fire's cause is being investigated - firefighters blamed safety lapses.
A fire service official said the building did not have an emergency exit and cooking gas cylinders were kept in stairwells and restaurant kitchens.

0.14 in primary stage I saw few people gave ladder to help the victim of first floor.
0.24 few people were able to get down from ladder.
0.26 and when the smoke spread, and fire service people came then they moved the ladder and people stuck inside.
0.35 I was back side of the building on that time.
0.38 Those who were tried to get down from backside of the building, we helped them and thanks to Allah that they were able to get down.
0.48 some people were stuck, and the fire service helped them.
0.51 and finally who were on the rooftop the got down by the help of fire service.
0.59 that’s all I have seen. And I cannot say correctly how many people were killed and injured.
1.15 some people tried to get down by climbing cable. And some jumped on the top of next Tin shade house.
1.20 3-4 people jumped into the Tin shade Building from third and fourth floor.
1.30 after that we brought the ladder from neighboring building in the back side and then people were able to get down.
1.40 around 9.40pm the fire took place.
1.46 it didn’t take too much time to come fire service people to come.
1.55 I cannot say what was happening in the front side as I was in the backside. I was helping people.
2.05 fire fighters were working since then and it was around 1am when they were able to control the fire.

0.08 we went to Roof when we saw fire in the Downstairs.
0.12 There was a Empty space on the roof
0.16 we sat on that empty space. We were almost 50-60 people.

0.16 other side was empty and that’s why it was safe.
0.20 when fire was under controlled then we break the door of emboshia Restaurant on the Front side

0.10 I went to the 7th Floor of this Building for Booking a restaurant. It was 9.35.9.38 PM I got down downstair for buy Drinking water for my sister. I cross the Road and Buy water and my sister was downstair.
0.25 It was Crowded here in the shop. Then I heard the shop. After a while I heard the shouting .
0.30 still the fire didn’t spread upstairs kacchi vai.

0.40 then I saw people break the window glasses to get out.

0.55 my sister and friends were standing downstair.
0.60 after booking the restaurant we went downstairs to go home. I just went to buy drinking water and all this happened in few moment.

1.19 fire service came in 20 minutes.
1.20 it was only 2 unites of Fire Service
1.25 Here the Road was blocked to other fire service vehicles couldn’t come.

1.40 since than I am stranding here from that time.
1.46 we all the friends are here.
1.50 I wish I could rescue some people but it was not people because the fire spread everywhere.
2.00 all the people were not able to get in the downstair only who were in the lower floors. The rest of the people stayed in the rooftop. There were no extra stairs (emergency fire exit was fill up with gas cylinder)
