A pet cafe adopts street cats then makes them available for customers to adopt - while they drink a coffee.

Footage shows the healthy moggies playing around the building with customers after the kind owners of Asok Pet House Cat Cafe in Bangkok, Thailand, had rehabilitated them.

The shop has been home to more than 100 cats, 70 of which have already been adopted. The remaining ten cats are still looking to re-home while the other 20 will stay with the owner, Joe Fah.

Joe said: ‘I'm a Chinese Australian living in Thailand now. I moved to Thailand for a year and a half and started Asok Pet House around nine months ago.

‘I always had a cat cafe in mind, but nothing triggered me until one day, I was walking down the street and saw a cat die.'

Joe added he realised Bangkok has a lot of stray dogs and cats. It was different from where I came from.'

Joe searched for organisations that helped strays and did volunteer work for them to learn.

He said: ‘I visited a shelter, I contacted PAWS Bangkok. I saw hundreds of cats inside the shelter, most of them are in cages.'

Joe asked about it and found out that most of the felines would have to live in the shelter because they weren't adopted.

He said: ‘When people come into the shelter for adoption, they are in the cage and didn't have much of a time to really get to know the cat and their personality.'

That's when Joe had the idea to have the space like in Asok Pet House where people can spend time before adoption.

‘So when you get into a room, they can feel which ones come to me and give a connection. That will make the adoption more successful.'

The cafe's first adoption opened only in April last year and had re-homed a total of 103 cats.

Most of the people who adopted were foreigners.

Joe said: ‘It started first with more foreigners, maybe because of my area and marketing, mostly in English so when we started, we had more ex-pats living in Thailand.'

However, Joe added more locals had been patronizing their pet house.

He said: ‘We do full procedure of adoption. We make sure every cat has already done their blood work, vaccination, and sterilised, and we have post-support after adoption.'

Joe added that anyone who wants to visit their cafe and adopt or play with their cats could visit them.

He said: ‘We have two floors so that you can enjoy some coffee and food.'

The cafe also serves dessert and savoury dishes like coffee tiramisu, beef cheek ragu spaghetti, caramelised banana with honey pancake and refreshing kale juice.
