I-80 Shut Down Due to Winter Storms in Colfax, CA, USA
This footage was filmed and produced 2 March 2024.
In a recent update, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Truckee division has shared a troubling development regarding the current conditions on the roads. According to their statement released at 5:30 am on March 2, 2024, the westbound traffic on Interstate 80 (I-80) has been redirected back at the Nevada State line, while eastbound traffic is being turned around at Colfax.
This decision comes as a result of adverse weather conditions, specifically snow accumulation, making the roadway unsafe and impassable for drivers. As of now, there is no estimated time for when the freeway will reopen, leaving commuters and travelers in a state of uncertainty.
The CHP Truckee division further underscored the severity of the situation by sharing a video showing the snowy road conditions that have necessitated the closure of I-80 in both directions. The footage serves as a stark reminder of the challenges posed by winter weather and the importance of adhering to safety protocols during such inclement conditions.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution and patience, as the authorities work diligently to address the situation and ensure the safety of all road users.
