Two women injured as poorly planned tree crushes house while being removed
Two women were seriously injured when a large tree fell onto a house while being uprooted by forest officials to make way for a wider road.
The incident occurred during the construction of a four-lane road in the city of Ballia, in Uttar Pradesh, India, on Thursday, February 29.
Dramatic footage shows a tractor and an earth-moving machine pulling the giant tree that had all its branches cut off using badly placed ropes.
However, the operation nearly turned fatal when the tree collapsed onto a house due to the machinery operators' inability to control its direction.
Loud screams could be heard as the falling tree landed on the home instead of the road as originally planned and wounded two women standing there.
Witnesses rushed to their aid and hurried to get them out of the way of the house's crumbling walls.
The injured were taken to the local area hospital where they are currently being treated, local media reported.
Following the incident, Public Service Department experts stressed the vital role of strict safety measures and planning to prevent accidents.
They emphasised the measures are crucial to ensure public safety and the reliable functioning of operations.
Police are now investigating the incident.
