A raging flash flood swept away homes in the Philippines as easterly winds affected the country.

Footage shows the overflowing river with a wrecked home floating along with the debris in Davao Occidental province on March 1.

The metal sheet roof of the house was still intact with the wooden wall despite being pushed away from the village for kilometres.

According to local authorities, at least 1,000 families were affected by the severe weather, with hundreds staying in evacuation centres.

The seasonal monsoon winds often have an easterly component in parts of South Asia and Southeast Asia. Prolonged easterly monsoon flow can deliver days or weeks of heavy rainfall, leading to riverine flooding and inundation.
