A great white shark had to be euthanised after being

washed up on a beach in Australia.

A video shows the four-meter-long shark thrashing along the shore in the shallow water near Kingscliff beach on the Tweed coast in New South Wales.

Lifeguards had been tracking its movements until it beached itself on Monday.

A veterinary squad from Sea World on the Gold Coast were soon called to the scene and found the shark struggling.

The shark was then sadly euthanised and a bulldozer was brought in to safely move it off the sand.

A spokesperson for SeaWorld said: "Sadly, the shark was in a poor condition after beaching. "

"The Sea World veterinary team administered medications to make the shark comfortable while it was humanely euthanised."

"The shark appeared to have underlying health issues, with the thrashing behavior seen in the shallows prior to the beaching not typical for the species."
