This is the moment animal rescuers saved a Sunda flying lemur stuck on a barbed wire fence in Thailand.

The injured creature had its flaps impaled on the sharp spikes while gliding through a neighbourhood in Songkhla province on February 24.

Resident Parattha Nooprasong notified the rescue team after spotting the colugo crying while hanging on the barbed wires.

Footage shows the volunteers carefully removing the flaps of skin caught in the barbs as the Sunda flying lemur shrieked in pain.

Once freed, the animal was placed inside a box and handed over to the staff of the Pa Krad Non-hunting Area to be released into the wild.

The Sunda flying lemur, also known as the Sunda colugo or Malayan colugo, is not actually a lemur that can fly.

Instead, it is a type of colugo that glides among trees using its paraglider-like skin membrane called 'patagium' that stretches from its neck to its limbs.

The Sunda flying lemur primarily inhabits forests in Southeast Asia, including parts of Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore.
