This is the heroic moment a brave gymgoer fought off armed robbers by hurling bodybuilding gear at them.

The terrifying robbery at the gym in Manaus, in Amazonas, Brazil, on March 1, sent most keep fit fans running for cover.

Gym CCTV footage shows two gunmen wearing motorcycle helmets storm through the workout room robbing users of their valuables.

Some leap from windows to escape while others can be seen holding their hands up and surrendering.

But as the armed gunmen try to escape, one brave gymgoer picks up what appears to be a barbell weight plate and runs up to a window hurling it at the fleeing robbers.

They fire back with gunshots but, amazingly, the bodybuilder runs back for a second weight and again throws it at them as they fire at him a second time.

Miraculously they miss again.

Local media reported that no one was injured in the incident.

The robbers had not been identified and no arrests had been made.
