A raging flash flood swept away homes in the Philippines as easterly winds battered the country.

Footage shows the swollen river that bursts its banks carrying away two wooden homes from the muddy riverbanks in Davao Occidental province on March 1.

The metal sheet roof of the house was still intact with the wooden walls as they floated through the deluge. Nobody was inside the properties at the time.

According to local authorities, at least 1,000 families were affected by the severe weather, with hundreds staying in evacuation centres.

The seasonal monsoon winds often have an easterly component in parts of South Asia and Southeast Asia. Prolonged easterly monsoon flow can deliver days or weeks of heavy rainfall, leading to riverine flooding and inundation.
