STORYLINE:
Turkish security forces on Tuesday detained seven suspects in Istanbul over alleged espionage activities connected to Israel's intelligence agency Mossad, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said.
The minister announced on social media platform X that the detentions came during simultaneous operations aimed at uncovering international espionage activities in Türkiye.
According to Yerlikaya, the suspects have been accused of transferring information and documents regarding companies and individuals targeted by the Israeli intelligence service.
During the raids, the police units also seized unlicensed pistols, various amounts of narcotics, electronic devices for detecting listening devices, and a large quantity of digital materials, documents, and foreign currency.
The operations were carried out under the coordination of the National Intelligence Organization units and the General Directorate of Security, the minister added.
