A woman from China tried a classic British Chinese takeaway for the first time and said she loved everything - and even called it "genius''."

Yinrun, 25, who is originally from Shanghai, had known about British Chinese food since moving to the UK two years ago but finally decided to try it on March 1.

She ordered salt-and-pepper chips, egg-fried rice, salt-and-pepper chicken and sweet and sour shredded beef.

Although she said it's not "authentic Chinese food", Yinrun explained she absolutely loved everything especially salt and pepper chips. "

Yinrun, a content creator and Big Brother 2023 contestant, said: "I've heard a lot about British Chinese food but I've never had it because I cook a lot and why buy something I can cook?"

"I was really curious to see what it was like because a lot of people say it’s really good, so I thought I should try it and film it."

Yinrun adored everything she tried but said most of it would not be eaten back home in China.

Out of everything she ordered, only the egg-fried rice and the chow mein is common food in China.

Bizarrely, prawn crackers, an iconic "Chinese" food in the UK, are only found in Thai restaurants in China."

Yinrun said: "Of course it's different to food cooked in China but I was so curious about the salt and pepper chips because there are no chips in China."

"I ordered them and they were amazing. It's genius to combine salt and pepper cooking style with chips."

Yinrun tried the food not long after social media circles exploded with controversy about Chinese food in the UK.

Many had taken to TikTok to mock British Chinese food for being inauthentic with some even alleging cultural appropriation.

Yinrun had been unaware of the controversy and was shocked when she saw the debate in her comments.

Some users even suggested she was a paid government propagandist.

Yinrun said: "I wasn't aware it was a talking point. When I saw the comments I was so surprised."

"A lot of people said I vindicated British food and Americans asked if the British government payed me."

She added: "All food, even Chinese food, tastes different in different regions."

"I think it's a great idea, a fusion of cultures, it's great as long as it tastes great."

Now Yinrun is excited to try other varieties of Chinese takeaway all across the world.

She said: "I plan on trying different Chinese takeaways around the world."

"I need to try sweet and sour chicken and prawn toast, neither of those exist in China."
