Police investigating fatal stabbing in Bristol according to a local mayor - on the day an anti knife crime campaign was launched there
Police are investigating a fatal stabbing in Bristol according to a local mayor - on the day an anti knife crime campaign was launched there.
West of England Mayor Dan Norris has offered his sympathies to families after ''another fatal stabbing'' in the city.
Police are at the scene of a serious incident in the St Agnes area and a cordon has been in place since 9.30pm on Tuesday.
Officers have not confirmed a stabbing but in a press statement today Norris says ''the killing needs to stop'.
It comes as today (Weds) an end to the "scourge of knife crime" was demanded in an open letter to Bristol."
News outlets and other organisations in the city signed the document calling for action.
A statement from his office said Mr Morris was ''responding to news of another fatal stabbing in Bristol''.
He said: ''My heart goes out to the family and friends of the victim.
''I know local people will be extremely concerned by this latest tragic incident. The killing needs to stop.
''The fear on our streets is growing. Everyone needs to play their role to turn this around. We need to come together."
Ashley Road is closed in both directions between Sussex Place and City Road.
Details of the incident are not yet known but the road is believed to have been closed since around 9.30pm last night.
The knife crime letter comes after the fatal stabbings this year of Max Dixon, 16, and Mason Rist, 15, who were stabbed in Knowle West on 27 January; and Darrian Williams, 16, in Easton on 14 February.
