15 meter long whale stranded in East Lombok

A whale stranded on Bang-bangan Beach, North Pringgabaya Village, Pringgabaya District, East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). The 15 meter long humpback whale type mammal was discovered by local fishermen on Tuesday (5/3/2024) at around 23.00 WITA. "Stranded on the coast alive and floating near the shrimp pond of PT Prima Rinjani Makmur," said Head of Public Relations for the East Lombok Police, Inspector Nicolas Oesman. Nico explained that the witness named Marjan (29) and three residents of North Pringgabaya Village found the whale while going fishing. The fishermen, Nico continued, saw an object floating from a distance. "After checking, it was true that the large whale had drifted away and was stranded on the coast," said Nico. According to Nico, the East Lombok Police Polairud staff have visited the location to help evacuate the whale. The evacuation process was carried out using the East Lombok Police Polairud Patrol boat and assisted by local fishermen. Based on the results of the examination, the mammal with the scientific name Megaptera novaeangliae had no injuries to its body. Nico suspects that the whale was stranded due to low tide. Stranded whales can be evacuated to the middle of the sea and returned to their habitat. It was towed by ship from Polairud's friends
