This is the scary moment five customers vomited blood inside a restaurant after allegedly being served toxic dry ice in India.

The group ordered the sugar and spice mix, which was traditionally served after a meal at most Indian restaurants, before they complained of a burning sensation in their mouths and started being sick in Gurugram, Haryana, on March 4.

Footage shows the diners trying to flush their mouths with water but kept on puking blood on the floor of La Forest Cafe.

Bizarrely, staff at the restaurant continued with their normal tasks as the customers vomited and cried in agony.

A man can be heard saying in the video: ‘Look at this, they don't know what they have eaten and everyone is vomiting here. We don't know what they have been given.'

He added: ‘Their tongues are burnt. Everyone is burning from the inside.

‘I don't know what acid they have ingested.'

Finally, someone said: ‘I am calling the police.'

The five customers were all hospitalized, with two of them in critical condition.

Police arrested the manager a day later, on March 5, and charged them with poisoning with the intent to cause hurt or harm while the restaurant owner had fled.

After a preliminary investigation, it was discovered that Laforestta Cafe had allegedly served them dry ice together with the after-meal mouth freshener.

One of the customers who was with his wife said in his police complaint: 'A doctor to whom I showed the mouth freshener package to said it was dry ice. The doctor said that it can cause death.'

Medics said the diners' mouths and food pipes suffered severe damage from the corrosive substance.

Manesar Police Station officer Surender Sheoran said: 'We learned from the hospital that some patients had been admitted on the evening of March 3.

'When the police arrived, the individuals who had been allowed in filed a complaint, claiming to have visited the La Forestta restaurant.

'They received a mouth refresher after the meal. They were brought to the hospital after eating it because they began to vomit and had burning in their mouths.

'The restaurant's manager was taken into custody. Additional investigation is in progress.'

Meanwhile, police say a complaint has been filed against the restaurant owner and workers under Sections 328 and 120B 'causing hurt by means of poison.'

The police official said that when a police squad visited the eatery, they discovered it to be locked at all entry and exit points.

The police added: 'During the initial questioning, the detained manager stated that a mouth freshener package and dry ice were inadvertently mixed together because of restaurant staff incompetence.

'He said nothing bad had been intended for the guests and the incident was regrettable.'

Authorities had shut the restaurant down during investigation.
