The agenda for the November 5 US election is loaded: the economy, abortion, insecurity, the age of President Biden, 81 (and to a lesser extent Trump, 77), risks to democracy, criminal indictments of the former president and even foreign policy will influence the outcome. Americans, however, see immigration as the country's biggest problem, according to a Gallup poll released earlier this week. Some 28 per cent of citizens (including 57 per cent of Republicans) cite it as the number one problem following the spate of illegal arrivals during Biden's presidency, which saw a record 250,000 crossings last December.
