This is the shocking moment a woman was injured when ravenous monkeys snatched her bag full of food.

Arikanta and her sister were returning home from the market when they encountered the troop of monkeys in Lopburi, Thailand, on March 6.

Knowing how aggressive the animals can be, the pair tried to hurry back to their car.

However, two monkeys suddenly grabbed the plastic bag Arikanta was holding. She tried to pull back, but the tug-of-war caused her to lose her balance and dislocate her knee.

The macaques escaped with the grocery items as Arikanta was taken to the emergency room of the King Narai Hospital. Doctors have given her painkillers and applied a splint.

Arikanta said: 'Now I can't make money for seven days because I have to stay at home to recover I hope authorities can take responsibility for this monkey problem. They have been plaguing us for a long time now. I only dislocated my knee this time, but what if they seriously injure someone else?'

Lopburi has become a popular tourist destination because of its large population of monkeys. The monkeys are mostly long-tailed macaques, and they can be found all over the city, from the temples to the streets.

However, they can also be aggressive, and they have been known to steal food and belongings.
