A motorcyclist was knocked down by a car after a dramatic road rage incident on a highway in southern China.

The shocking video was filmed in Guangzhou City in Guangdong Province on March 4.

As a car approached an interchange on the highway, seemingly unprepared, it nearly missed the opportunity to change lanes. Making a split-second decision to veer left, the vehicle encroached into the path of a speeding motorcycle in the adjacent lane.

The sudden lane change disrupted the motorcycle's trajectory, prompting the rider to unleash a flurry of punches onto the car's body in a fit of rage.

In response to the unexpected assault, the motorist retaliated with equal fervour. The dashcam footage reveals the car abruptly swerving left, causing the motorcycle to lose balance and crash to the ground.

The car driver then nonchalantly drove away from the scene.

Fortunately, the collision was not severe, and the motorcyclist quickly regained footing, sustaining minimal injuries.

Authorities from the traffic department stated that both parties were at fault, with one succumbing to road rage and the other engaging in an ill-timed lane change. However, no reports were filed by either party involved.

Opinions regarding the incident are divided. Some argue that the motorist violated traffic regulations by changing lanes over solid lines at the intersection, while others contend that the motorcyclist's excessive speed contributed to the hazardous situation.

Nevertheless, critics assert that the car driver should have checked for oncoming traffic before changing lanes, potentially averting the accident altogether. The motorcycle rider's actions, though, are deemed inappropriate, as excessive speed and resorting to violence are condemned.

Legal experts weigh in on the matter, citing the Road Safety Law, which deems the car's lane change over solid lines a violation. The motorcycle rider's act of assaulting the car could potentially be classified as provocation, subjecting them to administrative penalties.

Regarding the car's collision with the motorcycle, it may be viewed as self-defence, albeit employing overly aggressive means. If the motorcycle rider sustained injuries beyond minor, the car could be charged with intentional harm.
