Extreme rain left the city of Padang, Indonesia, submerged seeing officials use boats to evacuate in danger residents.

Head of the Sar Padang office, Abdul Malik, said: "Currently there are 10 sub-districts in the city that have been flooded, using rubber boats we continue to work hard to evacuate victims to a safe place, from the data the water level is from 1 metre to 7 metres, the flood was triggered by several rivers in the city the fields are overflowing."

extreme weather, heavy rain that poured down the city all day on March 7 2024, triggered a flood disaster that submerged thousands of residents' houses in the city of Padang.

Since the evening of 07 March 2024 until today 08 March the joint search and rescue team has evacuated thousands of Padang city residents who are trapped. Head of the Sar Padang office, Abdul Malik, said "currently there are 10 sub-districts in the city that have been flooded, using rubber boats we continue to work hard to evacuate victims to a safe place, from the data the water level is from 1 meter to 7 meters, the flood was triggered by a number of rivers in the city the fields are overflowing."

Meanwhile, the deputy mayor of Padang Ekos Albar said "all residents affected by the flood have been instructed to evacuate to schools, places of worship or government offices and as soon as possible a public kitchen will be set up to provide food for the evacuees."

Until today there has been no official statement from the relevant parties regarding the number of victims and losses due to the large floods that occurred in the city of Padang.

Currently the government is focusing more on evacuating a number of residents from old, young to young.
