STANDUP (English): SUN LEI, Xinhua correspondent
"This is a street in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, one of the most densely populated and congested cities in the world. Traffic congestion contributes to the deterioration of air quality in Jakarta, with about 50 percent of air pollution coming from traffic.  Indonesia plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060 or even earlier, with new energy vehicles being the current priority industry in Indonesia."

According to the Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO), the number of electric car brands from China coming to Indonesia has increased in the last six years and they have become the most popular electric car brands in the country.

The reasons included the affordability, innovative features, mobility and comfort of the Chinese electric vehicles.

GAIKINDO data also showed that the whole sales of EVs in Indonesia in 2023 reached 17,062 units, an increase of 65.2 percent compared to 2022.

Wuling Air EV became the second most-purchased brand, with sales of 5,575 units, after Hyundai Ioniq 5 with sales of 7,176 units.

SOUNDBITE (Chinese): LIU YAN, Marketing Operation Director of Wuling Indonesia
"I believe the greatest advantages of Chinese new energy vehicles in Indonesia lie in two aspects. First, China's new energy automakers have the most complete new energy vehicle industry chain globally. China has comprehensive capabilities for auto manufacturing, recycling, and reutilization, which is very important. Second, there is growing awareness and recognition of Chinese new energy products among consumers in Indonesia and even in Southeast Asia. They have come to realize that Chinese new energy brands have become the top-tier brands that are reliable and trustworthy for their options."
