Severe weather conditions affecting the waters of the Sunda Strait have posed significant obstacles for ships intending to dock at Merak Port. From Thursday night until Saturday morning, strong winds and large waves have made it difficult for ships from Bakauheni Port to moor at Merak Port's docks.

According to Shelvy Arifin, Corporate Secretary of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry, "Despite Merak and Bakau docks remaining operational, adverse weather conditions have caused difficulties for ships in the docking process, resulting in long queues, especially for logistic vehicles."

Vehicle queues are not only occurring within the port but have also extended outside. Although the weather improved on Friday afternoon, vehicle congestion continued to increase until Saturday morning.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) previously issued a level 2 early warning due to severe weather, with wind speeds reaching 20-25 knots from the south-southwest direction and high waves observed since Thursday night. "As a result, ships faced challenges in the docking process due to strong currents towards the Northeast," explained Shelvy.

The public is advised to remain vigilant and monitor the weather and traffic conditions at the port. Recovery and handling efforts are ongoing by the authorities to minimize the impact of the adverse weather affecting Merak Port.
