The health team from the Indonesian Pediatrician Association for West Sumater Province carried out examinations of the residents of Padang City who were affected by the floods that hit the area, Saturday 9 March 2024.

One by one the houses affected by the flood were visited and examinations were carried out which focused on babies and the elderly.

head of the examination team, dr. Iqbal Alrasid said "dozens of children and elderly residents have now contracted illnesses such as flu, fever, coughs, and several babies have had diarrhea,"

"In the meantime, what we can do is give medicine and if it's serious, we'll refer you to the hospital,"

Meanwhile, based on Padang city government data, there are 10 sub-districts out of 11 sub-districts that were flooded with a height of 1 meter to 7 meters.

As a result of the flood, thousands of residents' houses were submerged in floodwaters, triggering tens of thousands of Padang city residents to seek refuge in places of worship and regional government offices.

Apart from the city of Padang, the West Sumatra provincial government also announced that other natural disasters had also occurred, such as landslides, flash floods and others.

Head of the Sar Padan office, Abdul Malik, said "as of the afternoon of March 9 2024, 16 people had died and 7 people were still being searched in the southern coastal district."
