SOUNDBITE (Chinese): MIAO WEI, National lawmaker and Senior Vice President of ZTE Corporation
"Looking back on the past year of my duties, I feel it has been quite fulfilling. I conducted on-site visits and investigations to listen to the concerns and opinions of the people. The endeavor I devoted the most effort to was leading the establishment of a national lawmakers' liaison office. This office is set above the companies, and it's kind of an innovative model. It not only provides a working platform for the National People's Congress deputies to connect with the people when the top legislature is not in session. More importantly, it offers a platform for the public to voice their concerns and grievances.
We have indeed addressed many concerns for the people, such as assisting some enterprises in resolving problems related to environmental assessment of land during industrial implementation. Additionally, we have helped address the concerns of some employees on cross-provincial medical bill settlement. What impressed me during the process is how everyone candidly speaks their mind, and how issues that people deeply care about are addressed. We all engage in serious discussions. Throughout the process, we genuinely feel the active functioning of the whole-process people's democracy. Our goal is to fully listen to everyone's voices. Based on this, we will conduct in-depth investigations and discussions to further formulate suggestions. Our primary focus is on driving solutions through these suggestions, so that people can benefit from it, while contributing to the development of the entire industry and to the broader economic and social progress."
