CHP Ventura and Oxnard City Fire responded to a 911 call from a party stating they had struck a pedestrian in the northbound lanes of the 101 Freeway at Vineyard Ave.

When first responders arrived on scene, they located a victim down in lanes that had been struck by multiple vehicles.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to the CHP in a news release regarding the incident, a Hispanic male attempted to cross all lanes of the northbound 101 Freeway from the center divider to the east shoulder of the freeway.

A 19-year-old male who was driving his 2003 Toyota Tundra, was traveling northbound on the freeway south of Vineyard Avenue in the number 3 lane and struck the pedestrian which resulted in fatal injuries, the news release stated.

After the collision, multiple other vehicles struck the pedestrian. It was determined by the CHP that the driver who first struck the pedestrian was not under the influence of any drugs or alcohol.

"Upwards of seven vehicles may have struck the pedestrian. Multiple parties that struck the pedestrian cooperated with law enforcement and were determined also not to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. It is unknown if the male pedestrian was under the influence of drugs or alcohol and it is unknown why he was in traffic lanes," according to the initial CHP investigation.

CHP Sgt. Michael Untalan spoke to Key News Network at the scene and said that if there is anyone who has witnessed this crash, please call the CHP Ventura area office at (805) 662-2640 and speak with a crash investigator. Additional information regarding this collision can help the CHP piece together the incident and hopefully be able to identify the male pedestrian.

Untalan also said the CHP asks that if you are involved in any type of crash on the freeway, call law enforcement which everyone involved in this incident did, and to be mindful that there are more pedestrians in the roadways, unfortunately.
