Palestinian carpenter makes Ramadan lanterns in his own carpentry in Gaza
This footage was filmed and produced 10 March 2024.
The story of a Palestinian citizen who makes lanterns in his own carpentry, on the occasion of the advent of the month of Ramadan.
Interview with Muhammad Abu Amer:
02:56–03:07
I have a carpentry and I work here, I make antiques, gifts, and Ramadan lanterns, and now I am working on preparing Ramadan lanterns for children.
03:08-03:16
I make them every year, I have been working here for more than 5 years and every year we prepare thousands of them.
03:18-03:24
We usually start 2 or 3 months before Ramadan, so we can serve the needs of customers, but this year Ramadan is very different.
03:25-03:36
I mean after five months since the war started, the orders are so weak and we received some orders a few days ago, and it is not so much.
03:37-03:45
I ask God to end the war, and everyone comes back home.
03:45-03:53
This time, Ramadan is different than every year, the prices of objects are so high.
03:55-04:09
There is no electricity that can help in making lanterns, so we are forced to drive alternators. And so far, we will continue to make them.
04:09-04:34
Making the lanterns is a good revenue of money. Ramadan is a peaceful month, and we wait for it from year to year to sell the lanterns. So this year, we still sell them despite the conditions, and we make them for the kids.
