Police arrest driver after car strikes pedestrians and cyclists, injuring 11 in China
A car careened into pedestrians and electric cyclists along on a road, leaving 11 people injured in southern China.
The aftermath video was filmed in Guangzhou City in Guangdong. Province on March 12.
Swiftly responding to the distress call, law enforcement dispatched officers to manage the situation and aid in transporting the wounded to hospitals for urgent medical attention.
The driver responsible, identified as Mr. Huang, a 49-year-old male, has been apprehended by authorities, although investigations into the accident are still ongoing.
Eyewitnesses and survivors recount a harrowing sequence of events, describing how the white vehicle recklessly traversed through various streets in Yuexiu District, including Zhongshan Road, Zhongshan Fifth Road, Guangda Road, and Guangwei Road.
Repeatedly veering from motor lanes into non-motor lanes, the car collided with electric bicycles and pedestrians at intersections until finally crashing into a stationary bus on Guangren Road, triggering airbag deployment and bringing the vehicle to a halt.
Witnesses claim Mr. Huang, the driver, disembarked from the vehicle while smoking a cigarette before fleeing the scene.
Mr. Yang, whose electric bicycle was struck on Guangda Road, recounted the terrifying moment when the car abruptly swerved from Zhongshan Fifth Road into the non-motor lane, striking an elderly lady who was unable to rise from the ground afterward, presumably due to a fractured leg.
"At the time, it was a two-way cycle lane, and the motor lane was clear. After colliding with the elderly lady and my electric bike, it didn't decelerate but continued on Guangda Road and collided with pedestrians at the intersection with Guangwei Road."
As of approximately 11:00 am, traffic flow in the affected area has returned to normalcy, but the shockwaves of this morning's events continue to reverberate through the community as authorities diligently pursue further investigation into the incident.
