In a heroic effort to prevent a larger tragedy, firefighters in Aguascalientes, Mexico, risked their lives to control a fire at a filling platform inside a burning gas plant where more than 1000 tanks were ablaze.

The Municipality of Aguascalientes, in collaboration with the State Government and emergency agencies, worked tirelessly to control the fire at the liquefied petroleum (L.P.) gas plant located in the conurbation area with San Francisco de los Romo.

The Municipal Fire Department of Aguascalientes, with the support of rapid attack pumpers, and the Public Services Secretariat, with water trucks, joined forces to extinguish the fire that originated on an L.P. gas cylinder platform.

The emergency services were activated around 11 in the morning as firefighters from different municipalities worked to control and extinguish the flames that were consuming over 600 tanks of different capacities on the platform.

The high temperatures from the explosion caused damage and leaks to several tanks, making the manoeuvres complicated. Despite the challenges, the firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to other cylinders that store approximately two million litres of L.P. gas.

After more than three hours of intense work, the fire was finally brought under control, with approximately 1088 L.P. gas tanks of different capacities consumed by the flames. A warehouse of approximately 428 square metres collapsed, along with six delivery trucks, two cranes, and one injured male named Josa Adolfo, aged 37, who was taken for medical attention at the San Francisco de los Romo clinic.
