The Guardia Civil has dismantled a criminal organization dedicated to smuggling cocaine into Spain from Panama as part of Operation "IROKO." Five people have been arrested and 150 kilograms of cocaine have been seized in the port of Algeciras.

The operation began in July 2023 with the interception of a container at the port of Algeciras containing 150 kilos of cocaine with $ 7.5 million, hidden in double bottoms of various furniture pieces arriving from Panama.

Investigators discovered that the organization used shell companies to transport the containers. The first phase of the investigation led to the identification and arrest of three people in the Valencia region responsible for transporting the containers from Algeciras to Barcelona, where the drugs were to be unloaded and transported to Valencia.

In a second phase, two more people in Valencia were arrested for providing security for the containers during transit. Two home searches revealed a marijuana plantation with over 250 plants.

Some members of the organization had been hiding in Colombia to avoid detection. One of the arrested individuals even had a hidden room in his home specifically for evading capture.

The detainees, along with the evidence gathered, were presented to the Judicial Authority, who ordered their remand in custody without bail.
