This is the incredible moment a shooting star illuminated the night sky over central Thailand.

Dashcam footage shows the glowing object streaking over a highway in Ayutthaya province on March 6.

The shooting star was also seen in nearby regions including Bangkok.

The Thai Astronomical Society said that generally, more shooting stars were visible in the northern hemisphere from February to mid-April.

A meteor, also sometimes called a shooting star or falling star, is a streak of light seen in the sky when a piece of rock or metal from space burns up as it enters the Earth's atmosphere.

The majority of meteors entering Earth's atmosphere move at very high speeds, often exceeding 70 km/s. This rapid speed causes them to heat up and glow.
