Lowest Spring tide of the year seen at Kent, UK beach
The lowest tide of this year (2024) was seen at a Kent, UK beach this morning (March 12).
The lowest equinoctial spring tide was observed at Sheerness beach in Kent - with the SS Richard Montgomery shipwreck looking ghostly in the morning rain - and large areas of the seabed normally covered by water revealed.
National Tidal and Sea Level Facility (NTSLF) publish the dates of the lowest equinoctial spring tides for various UK ports - these occur close to the equinox - when day and night are nearly equal length.
The predicted low water for Sheerness was just 0.06 metres this morning.
