A man depressed when a girlfriend left him due to his weight gain has lost 64kg - and now works as a personal trainer.

Nithun Puvirajasingam, 27, gained 44kg during lockdown and went from 100kg to 144kg.

He says his girlfriend couldn't bear to see him "eat himself to death" and left him and he decided to get his life back on track. "

Nithun has now lost 64kg - bringing his weight down to 80kg - and now he even works as a personal trainer.

Nithun, from London, used to be very sporty and loved to exercise.

He played rugby and went to the gym often until lockdown hit - leaving him stuck at home.

He said: "It was during lockdown with her that I started piling on the weight as I couldn't go to the gym. "

"Before, I loved working out and keeping fit but during lockdown with the closure of all the gyms, I couldn't work out."

"The weight started piling on. I didn't see any friends or family just stayed in with her and pretty much ate and smoked."

Nithun's girlfriend couldn't bear to watch him destroy himself and left him.

He said: "She pretty much couldn't watch me eat myself to death, which is understandable. She said if I didn't change she’d leave and I didn't change."

Nithun had lost the will to live and even hoped for death.

He said: "When I was driving to work I welcomed a crash and hoped I died."

"I wore the same clothes, the same big jacket to hide myself and avoided seeing friends. I finally decided this is not the way to live."

After two weeks of despair he decided he needed to turn his life around.

Starting in mid-February 2021, he slowly fixed his diet, quit smoking and began to exercise.

Fast forward three years, he built a body straight out of Hollywood and acquired his personal training license.

He explained: "I bought resistance bands, a bench, dumbbells, a barbell, put some mirrors up, put down some rubber flooring, got myself a boxing bag and slowly started getting back into my routine."

"My main motivation was myself. I would take progress pictures and I started posting on my Instagram."

"It's been three years of consistency for me now. I haven't taken more than a week off. I feel great and I can't ever imagine going back to that lifestyle."

"I was grateful in a way because it gave me that push I needed to get out of my comfort zone and prove everyone wrong."

"I don't even recognize that man anymore."
