A fire at a local market killed a six-year-old girl in Thailand.

The blaze broke out at a vegetable store, engulfing 10 stalls at the Simummuang Market in Pathum Thani province on March 12.

Firefighters and police responded to the report and found smoke filling a section of the market. They extinguished the fire in 40 minutes.

Two people, a girl and her uncle, 30, were found unconscious from smoke inhalation. They were rushed to the St. Carlos Hospital, but the youngster did not survive.

Opas Karnkawinpong, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Public Health, said in a press conference that the man's condition was still being monitored.

He added that mental health experts from Pathum Thani Hospital were providing support to the grieving family.

Officials have not yet clarified the cause of the fire.
