Royal National Lifeboat Institution volunteers sprang into action when they received a call about a dog that had tumbled over a seawall in Cockenzie, Scotland.

Upon arrival, the decision was made to send a crew member ashore to the rocks to try and catch the dog.

Helm Neil Chalmers explained: "We arrived to find the dog apparently uninjured but stranded among the rock armour boulders at the base of the sea wall. A crew member swam ashore as it was too rough to get the boat close to the rocks. After gaining the dog's trust, we were able to secure a lead on the dog and use the coastguard’s dog rescue pouch to hoist it back to safety."

Chalmers commended the dog’s owners for calling for help rather than attempting a rescue themselves. He added, "The dog’s owners did exactly the right thing by calling for help rather than attempting to rescue the dog themselves."
