STORYLINE:
Two leading trade fair organizers from Germany have expressed their optimism in China's exhibition market.
China's exhibition sector has experienced a quick growth track.
According to a report released by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, in 2023, China's economic and trade expos resumed to the level seen before the pandemic.
The number of economic and trade expos surged 117.1 percent year-on-year to 3,923, 10.6 percent higher than the level in 2019.
The total exhibition area of such expos was 141 million square meters, 8.25 percent higher than that of 2019.
SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): EVAN SHA, President, Messe Munchen Shanghai Co., Ltd.
"The overall performance in 2023 has surpassed that of 2019. I think that is mainly because the confidence in the market has been restored. 2024 is an important year for us, as some of our biennial exhibitions will all be held this year."
SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): LIU GUOLIANG, General Manager, Hannover Milano Fairs China Limited
"China's exhibition sector is expanding rapidly. China has vast markets and enormous industrial foundations. For instance, fairs for automobiles, engineering machinery, and robotics held in China hold crucial positions in the world.
Local governments in various places are also rolling out many incentive policies, which are highly beneficial for the exhibition industry."
SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): EVAN SHA, President, Messe Munchen Shanghai Co., Ltd.
"Our 2023 figures show that China is our second-largest market after Germany. Our headquarters is also very confident that in the future, China will remain the most crucial and largest overseas market for us."
SOUNDBITE 4 (Chinese): LIU GUOLIANG, General Manager, Hannover Milano Fairs China Limited
"From the perspective of infrastructure, human resources, and market dynamics, I believe China will become the world's largest exhibition market in the future. I believe the pace of growth will be even faster."
