"I hope the staff members can learn different catering skills here. My restaurant used to serve Western-style food. Some of my former employees are now learning to cook Western food."
According to Sung, the initial idea of opening this restaurant was to give people like her autistic daughter a place to work.
SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): MARIA SUNG LAW MAN-KWAN, Founder of Holy Cafe
"Many staff members say that they are so lucky to work at Holy Cafe. I also feel very lucky to have hired them. They cherish this job more than ordinary young people and put more effort into it."
In November 2022, Sung received an honorary fellowship from Hong Kong Metropolitan University, in recognition of her accomplishments and contribution to the betterment of society.
With donations from warm-hearted people, Holy Cafe prepares and distributes 200 lunch boxes on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays to those aged 70 and above.
SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): MARIA SUNG LAW MAN-KWAN, Founder of Holy Cafe
"I hope to open more branches. If I open one branch, I can hire three people (with disabilities). If I open 10 branches, I can hire 30 people (with disabilities). I hope Holy Cafe can stay in business as long as possible, to help as many young people in need as possible."
