Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry agreed on Monday (11.03.2024) to step down from office, the current chairman of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) announced at a press conference following a meeting in Jamaica on the country, wracked by gang violence and a crisis of governance.

Henry will step down following "the establishment of a transitional presidential council and the appointment of an interim prime minister," announced the Caribbean Community's rotating president and Guyana's leader, Irfaan Ali.

The rotating Caricom leader, accompanied by other heads of government of the Caribbean organisation, explained at a press conference late Monday in Kingston that it has been agreed "to establish a transitional presidential council consisting of seven voting members and two observers".
