Transformer explodes killing 1 and injuring 2 in north India
A lawyer was killed and two others were injured after a transformer exploded at Patna Civil Court on March 13.
The deceased lawyer has been identified as Devendra Prasad, who lost his life in the incident. Two other lawyers sustained severe burn injuries and were rushed to the Patna Medical College and Hospital for urgent medical attention.
The tragic event sparked outrage among the legal community within the court premises, leading to protests demanding justice and compensation for the victims' families.
Aggrieved lawyers demanded compensation of 200,000 rupees (£18,845) for the deceased lawyer's family, attributing the tragedy to negligence on the part of the electrical department.
Initial investigations suggested that the explosion was caused by a leak in the transformer's oil, followed by a failure in the metering unit - a device mounted on the transformer for high-tension consumers to signal the meter.
The electrical department personnel indicated that technical malfunction could be a possible cause of the fire, pending further investigation.
