Student organisations from universities in Delhi conducted protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 on March 12, a day after the Centre implemented the contentious law that paves the way for citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

Around 70 students were detained on Tuesday as they gathered to protest against the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Under the rules, persecuted non-Muslim migrants - Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis and Christians - from three countries, including Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, will be eligible for Indian nationality.
