This footage was filmed and produced 12 March 2024.

Kern County Sheriff's deputies were attempting to serve an arrest warrant for a violation of a restraining order in the 3300 block of 15th Street West at approximately 3:15 p.m. Tuesday. Upon making contact with the subject, initial information from the scene indicated he brandished a firearm and began making suicide by cop threats then barricaded himself inside the house and refused to come out. Kern County Sheriff's SWAT and hostage negotiation detectives were called to the scene. This incident was still ongoing into the evening hours and active with a massive presence from Kern County Sheriff's Office, Bakersfield Police Department, and California Highway Patrol.

While it is not immediately clear how long the barricade lasted, the KCSO updated the incident in the early morning hours of Wednesday stating that after negotiating with the suspect, he exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect has been identified by authorities as 24-year-old Joseph Nelson, who was arrested and booked into the Lerdo Jail for resisting arrest, violation of a court order, criminal threats and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
