Customs officials recover gold concealed inside camera, clothes worn at airport in western India

Officers of the Mumbai Customs Department seized gold from clothes worn, camera and hand bag across four different cases at the airport in western India's Maharashtra.

This incident happened at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on March 12-13.

Visuals showed the airport officials breaking open parts of a camera to retrieve the gold hidden inside. Using a hammer, he broke down the parts of the camera and then stripped off the outer plastic coating to find the gold concealed inside.

The gold was found in the form of small bars. Not just this but the officials also recovered gold in the form of dust on the clothes worn by a passenger in one of these cases. The gold dust was on the inside portion of the garment and the officials ripped open the cloth to take it out. It was learnt that gold worth Rs 1.29 crore (USD 1,55,702.03) and weighing 2.24 kg (4.938 lbs) was recovered from these cases.
