China's decision to lift a ban on imports of Spanish beef has been welcomed by the meat industry in Spain as "super-positive".
SOUNDBITE 1 (Spanish): RICARD GODIA, President of the Spanish Association of Beef Producers
"The beef industry's initial reaction is super-positive. Our main aim is to open new markets, above all the Asian market, and China was a market closed to us that is now open. The production plants still need certification before exports can begin but it's positive news."
SOUNDBITE 2 (Spanish): RICARD GODIA, President of the Spanish Association of Beef Producers
"The level of impact of this agreement with China obviously at the beginning will be slight and progressive but depending on the situation of the market it could be very, very beneficial, which is why we see it as advantageous and a success in the expansion of the beef market abroad, above all in Asia."
China has announced the lifting of restrictions on imports of Spanish-deboned beef from cattle under 30 months of age.
