SOUNDBITE (Portuguese): RUI MIGUENS DE OLIVEIRA, Angola's minister of industry and commerce
"The Belt and Road Initiative means that all nations can contribute with what they have, with what their potential is, for, ultimately, the global well-being of humanity.
So it's an initiative that brings prospects for economic development, for social development, and above all, it's an initiative that brings peace, because under it, we have been able to develop trade between different countries, which has been mutually beneficial, benefiting all parties in a balanced and fair way."
Since China and Angola established diplomatic relations 41 years ago, Angola has emerged as China's second-largest trading partner in Africa, with bilateral trade reaching 23 billion U.S. dollars in 2023.
Chinese companies have rebuilt or constructed new 2,800 km of railways, 20,000 km of roads, over 100,000 social housing units, more than 100 schools, and more than 50 hospitals in the southern African nation.
