STORYLINE:
Business leaders from a German delegation have pinned high hopes on cooperation with China's Wuhan City in new energy after their visit to Wuhan Iron and Steel (Group) Company.
SOUNDBITE 1 (English): DOMINIK BARTZ, Head of Hub International, Duisburg
"We are always looking for cooperations in the field of hydrogen, because hydrogen is a huge factor for Duisburg, because we're switching our steel plant from a classic gas powered steel plant to a hydrogen powered steel plant in the coming five to 10 years."
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): FRANK AHRENHOLD, Head of Sustainable Steel Production at Thyssenkrupp Steel
"This morning we were in the steel complex and it's an extraordinary site, the cleanliness and a lot of green around it. It's really outstanding. So I was really, really impressed. We also saw the central control room with 5G technology that is something unique as well.
There's a lot of potential to do something together. And what I'm thinking about is green transformation, because there's a lot of effort done, especially in China and especially in Europe. We should really team up there and bring this forward for the sake of the world."
From March 11 to 14, the delegation of over 20 people from the German city of Duisburg visited companies in Wuhan related to renewable energy, intelligent vehicles and logistics, among other fields. They also held trade talks with local companies to further consolidate the cooperation between the two cities.
Wuhan and Duisburg are both known for the steel industries. In 1982, Duisburg became the first city in the Federal Republic of Germany to establish a "sister cities" relationship with Wuhan.
There are currently over 110 German companies established in Wuhan, making Germany among the top 10 largest trading partners of the city.
