A fire broke out at the famous Al-Ahram filming studio in Cairo, Egypt on the night of March 15th.

The fire heavily damaged the main building and began spreading to three surrounding buildings which were evacuated before the blaze reached them.

The building had been used the same day for the filming for Al-Moalem, a Ramadan television series before the fire broke out.

According to the filmer, an eyewitness: "The fire was in front of me, and I live in the building opposite it. The fire happened at approximately 1:30am. I photographed it at 2:05am."

Firefighters needed more than six hours to extinguish the blaze. Local media reported that the studio itself was destroyed, "including decorations, wood, places designated for photography, and corridors."

An investigation has been launched into the cause of the blaze. No deaths have been reported but some people were treated for smoke inhalation.
