Woman detained for disruptive behavior at Yekaterinburg polling station in Russia
On March 16, 2024, in Yekaterinburg, Russia, a woman was apprehended at gymnasium No. 13 while carrying greenery. The incident took place within the premises of Karl Marx, 33, which houses two precinct election commissions of the Oktyabrskaya RTEC - PEC No. 1550 and PEC No. 1556. Identified as a doctor of sciences and professor from UrFU, the woman's motives remain undisclosed. Currently held at the local police department, she faces potential criminal charges. Instances similar to this across other regions have led to the initiation of criminal proceedings for obstruction of elections, punishable by up to 5 years in prison. Despite the disruption, authorities assure that the integrity of ballots and election documentation remains intact, as confirmed by the Public Service Center.
