The 16th UK Wife Carrying Race took place in Dorking, Surrey, on Sunday (March 17).

The 380-metre course includes hay bales for participants to jump over and an area where spectators drench the couples with water buckets.

Race rules state the "wife" does not have to be the carrier's actual wife, can be male or female, but must be over 18 years old and weigh at least 50kg.

Winners receive a barrel of local ale worth £150, along with £250 towards their expenses to represent Britain at the World Wife Carrying Championships in Finland in July.
